DESCRIPTION

Injectable Solution

Each ml of Valium contains 5 mg diazepam compounded with 40% propylene glycol, 10% ethyl alcohol, 5% sodium benzoate and benzoic acid as buffers, and 1.5% benzyl alcohol as preservative.

Diazepam is a benzodiazepine derivative. Chemically, diazepam is 7-chloro-1,3-dihydro-1-methyl-5-phenyl-2H-1,4-benzodiazepin-2-one. It is a colorless crystalline compound, insoluble in water and has a molecular weight of 284.74.

Injectable Emulsion

Diazepam is a benzodiazepine derivative identified chemically as 7-chloro-1,3-dihydro-1-methyl-5-phenyl-2H-1,4-benzodiazepin-2-one. It is a colorless crystalline compound, insoluble in water and has a molecular weight of 284.75.

Each ml of Dizac for I.V. administration only contains 5 mg diazepam, fractionated soybean oil 150 mg, diacetylated monoglycerides 50 mg, fractionated egg yolk phospholipids 12 mg, glycerin 22.0 mg, water for injection, and sodium hydroxide to adjust pH to approximately 8. Dizac is a sterile formulation and contains no preservatives.

STRICT ASEPTIC TECHNIQUE MUST ALWAYS BE MAINTAINED DURING HANDLING. DIZAC INJECTABLE EMULSION IS A SINGLE-USE PARENTERAL PRODUCT, CONTAINS NO ANTIMICROBIAL PRESERVATIVES, AND CAN SUPPORT RAPID GROWTH OF MICROORGANISMS. ALWAYS DISCARD UNUSED PORTION (SEE DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION, ASEPTIC GUIDELINES FOR PARENTERAL USE). THERE HAVE BEEN REPORTS IN WHICH FAILURE TO USE ASEPTIC TECHNIQUE WHEN HANDLING OTHER PARENTERAL PRODUCTS (CONTAINING THE SAME VEHICLE) WAS ASSOCIATED WITH MICROBIAL CONTAMINATION OF THE PRODUCT AND WITH FEVER, INFECTION/SEPSIS, OTHER LIFE THREATENING ILLNESSES, AND/OR DEATH. DO NOT USE IF CONTAMINATION IS SUSPECTED.
