Bethanechol chloride, a cholinergic
agent, is a synthetic
ester which is structurally
and pharmacologically related to acetylcholine. It is designated chemically
as 2-[(aminocarbonyl)oxy]- N, N, N-trimethyl-1-propanaminium chloride.
The molecular formula is:
C7H17ClN2O2 with a molecular
weight of 196.68.
It is a white, hygroscopic
having a slight amine-like odor, freely soluble
in water. Bethanechol chloride
is supplied as 5 mg, 10 mg, 25 mg
and 50 mg tablets for oral
Bethanechol chloride tablets
for oral administration
contain the following inactive ingredients: colloidal silicon
dioxide, dibasic calcium
phosphate, lactose monohydrate, magnesium
cellulose and sodium starch
The 25 mg and 50 mg
tablets also contain: D&C Yellow No. 10 and FD&C Yellow No. 6.
